You spent years learning the lore and magic of Faerun. You scoured manuscripts, studied scrolls, and listened to the greatest experts on the subjects that interest you. Your efforts have made you a master in your fields of study of magic and the arcane.


NOTE: Some backgrounds have options to choose from. Please read carefully. You may not get every proficiency listed below, as some may be a choice between one or the other.

  • Stat Options (choose either +2 in one stat and +1 in another, OR +1 in all three): Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom
  • Skill Proficiencies (your choice of TWO): Arcana, History, or Insight
  • Tool Proficiencies: One Gaming Set or Musical Instrument of choice.
  • Languages: Three Standard and one Exotic, OR one Standard and two Exotic languages of choice.

  • Background Keepsake: A letter from a dead colleague posing a question you have not yet been able to answer
  • Background Gold: 10gp.

Origin Feat

Origin Magician

If you have the spellcasting class feature you learn 1 additional cantrip from the Wizard class spell list, which now becomes a spell of your class list. If you do not have the spellcasting class feature you gain a +1 to the Arcana skill. At 5th level, you gain a 1st or 2nd level added to your spells known from the Wizard spell list if you have the spellcasting class feature and now becomes a spell on your class spell list, or gain a +2 to the Arcana skill if you don't have the spellcasting class feature, which replaces the +1.

Sages arc defined by their extensive studies, and their characteristics reflect this life of study. Devoted to scholarly pursuits, a sage values knowledge highly – sometimes in its own right, sometimes as a means toward other ideals.
